We receive many inquiries that fall outside our capabilities. Rather than lead with what we can’t do, we’d rather show you what we do exceptionally well — so you can judge whether Gavitt belongs on your approved supplier list.
What we do — and do better than anyone
Gavitt is best known for high-flex, flex-life multiconductor cables used in custom, complex, and critical applications. We are a U.S.-based extrusion manufacturer with deep engineering capability in fine-gauge specialty wire.
Our sweet spot is 22–32 AWG, though we accommodate conductors up to 12 AWG and cables up to 0.700″ O.D. From simple single-conductor wire to complex shielded multiconductor assemblies, we engineer every construction to perform.
Our primary markets & applications
Medical
Lead wire, diagnostic cables, ribbon cable, ripcord, and patient-contact applications where flex life, biocompatibility of materials, and reliable signal integrity are critical. We understand the demands of medical-grade construction.
Industrial High-Flex
High-flex, flex-life multiconductor cables engineered for continuous motion, tight bend radii, and demanding environments where standard wire simply fails. Built to last where it counts.
Military, Aerospace & Emergency
Wire and cable for military, commercial flight, aerospace systems, emergency-services communications, and sport & entertainment headsets and coil cords — where performance and reliability are non-negotiable.
Music — Vintage & Pickup Wire
The world-renowned, industry-standard source for vintage pickup and pushback wire. Specified by luthiers, boutique builders, and major guitar manufacturers globally — the benchmark for period-correct instrument wiring.
What we build to & hold
We build primarily commercial-grade wire — AWM 758-style and commercial equivalents of certified constructions — and maintain over 300 UL styles. While we don’t hold certification across the full range of military specifications, we actively maintain the following:
If your program requires a specific certification not listed here, please reach out — we’re happy to discuss your requirements and assess fit honestly.
The world standard for vintage guitar wire
Gavitt is recognized worldwide as the definitive source for vintage-style pushback and pickup wire. Luthiers, boutique builders, and major guitar manufacturers across the globe specify Gavitt when authenticity, feel, and tone matter.
Our cloth-covered, tinned-copper pushback wire replicates the exact construction used in the golden era of American instrument building — the 1950s and ’60s. It’s not a replica of the original; in many cases, it is the original, still being made the right way.
“When authenticity is non-negotiable, the guitar and luthier community has long turned to one name: Gavitt. Their vintage pushback wire is regarded as the gold standard for period-correct instrument wiring worldwide.”
What you won’t experience working with us
We built our reputation on being straightforward, responsive, and easy to work with. These aren’t aspirations — they’re how we operate every day.
We Don’t Ignore You
Every inquiry gets a real response from a real person. We answer the phone. We reply to emails. If you reach out, you will hear back — promptly.
We Don’t String You Along
No runaround, no vague timelines, no being passed from person to person. We tell you where you stand, and we mean it.
We Don’t Take Weeks to Quote
We move fast. Custom designs and quotes are turned around quickly — not in weeks. Your project has a schedule, and we respect it.
We Don’t Charge for Design
If you place an order, design work is on us. We invest in the engineering upfront because we’re building something together.
Real-World Minimum Orders
Our minimum order quantity starts at just 1,000 feet. We serve customers who need specialty cable in practical volumes.
Award-Winning Service
Our customer service has been recognized for a reason. Every project — large or small — gets the same attention and follow-through.
Products & services we don’t offer
We want every inquiry to be worth your time. If what you’ve read sounds like a fit, we’d love to talk. If you’re still unsure, here’s what falls clearly outside our capabilities.
Commodity & Building Wire
No Romex, NM-B, THHN, or standard building wire. These are widely available through electrical distributors.
PTFE Insulation
PTFE isn’t an extrusion material. We do offer FEP — an extrudable fluoropolymer with many of the same performance characteristics.
Crosslinked & XLPE Wire
We don’t manufacture crosslinked polyethylene or other crosslinked insulation systems — outside our extrusion process.
Ethernet, Data & Network Cable
We can build data comms cables, but don’t perform high-speed data testing to any standard. Testing is the customer’s responsibility.
SAE Automotive Wire
No SAE-specification automotive primary wire. We can build equivalents without the SAE certification; testing is the customer’s.
Large Conductors & Heavy Cables
No gauges heavier than 12 AWG, or cables exceeding 0.700 inch overall diameter.
Wire Harness & Sub-Assembly
We manufacture wire and cable — no cut-to-length, termination, harness assembly, or finished electrical assemblies.
Connectors, Terminals & Components
Wire and cable only. No connectors, lugs, terminals, conduit, or other electrical hardware.
Electrical Installation & Contracting
We’re a manufacturer, not a service provider. No installations, field wiring, or on-site contracting.
Drum Packaging
We don’t ship in drums. Standard formats are spools and reels suited to specialty cable.
High-Speed Data Testing
No in-house high-speed data testing equipment. Factor certified data testing into your qualification process.
ISO 9001, ISO 13485, ITAR & AS9100
We maintain a stringent quality and traceability program but don’t currently hold these. If your program requires them, let’s discuss.
Tell us what you need. We’ll tell you honestly.
If your application isn’t clearly addressed above, our engineering team can quickly assess whether your requirement falls within our capabilities — just reach out and describe what you need.
